Rutgers lands commitment from 2019 DT
This is a bit of good news for the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers landed a commitment from one 2019 defensive tackle on Friday. Malachi Burby is a 3-star DT out of Connecticut. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 270 lbs., Burby is the No. 12 player from the state of Connecticut for 2019 on the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.
When discussing his commitment with Brian Dohn of 247 Sports, Burby said he believes in the vision of head coach Chris Ash. If the Scarlet Knights get the talent, Burby believes in the opportunity to turn things around.
Dohn shared Burby’s comments on his commitment:
“When I sat down and talked to coach (Chris) Ash on my official, his vision for the program, I thought about it,” Burby said. “I believe in it and I think if we get the talent from around the tri-state area we can help turn this thing around and make a difference…I think it is a great opportunity, and the position they want me to play (defensive tackle) is where I wanted to play so he doesn’t get much better than that.”
Burby also had offers from Syracuse, Wake Forest, and Temple. He is currently the highest rated DL commit in Rutgers’ 2019 class.
