When Jim Delany brought Maryland and Rutgers to the B1G, this is exactly what he had in mind. The B1G will have a big-time event in the world’s biggest market.

Rutgers and Maryland had already been scheduled for a “neutral site” football game in 2017. Now, they’ll add wrestling to the mix.

“Big Ten Battle at the Bronx” will be a football-wrestling doubleheader held between the two schools at Yankee Stadium on Nov. 4, 2017. The wrestling match will be first and the football game will follow.

No times or networks have been announced yet.

“Never before has a doubleheader such as this taken place at a venue so iconic,” Rutgers athletic director Pat Hobbs said in a statement. “We are thrilled to provide our fans this one-of-a-kind experience while enhancing the Big Ten brand in the world’s media capital. This is certain to be a very special day.

“We are thankful to the New York Yankees, the Big Ten Conference and the University of Maryland for helping to make it possible.”

This isn’t the first time that a wrestling-football doubleheader has taken place in the B1G. Iowa pulled off the same feat at Kinnick Stadium in 2015.

Rutgers actually has a wrestling-football doubleheader called “Battle at the Birthplace,” which will take place on Nov. 19. The Rutgers wrestling team will take on Princeton and the football team will host Penn State at High Point Solution Stadium after that.

It’s also not the first time that Rutgers will play at Yankee Stadium. The Knights already played three times since 2011.

But it’ll be the first time this type of event is hosted between B1G schools at Yankee Stadium.
