Rutgers picks up commitment from in-state WR Marlyn Johnson
Chris Ash has picked up commitment No. 11 and the first wide receiver for Rutgers’ 2019 class on Saturday as Marlyn Johnson out of Hightstown, N.J. pledged to the Scarlet Knights.
Though Johnson has yet to tweet an announcement himself (as is customary of recruits), the news was reported by The Knight Report with 247Sports also listing Johnson as committed.
While coaches may want to see Johnson add some bulk to his 190-pound frame, he already has the height (6-4) to go up against Big Ten cornerbacks. Johnson had chose Rutgers over conference rivals Maryland, Nebraska and Penn State as well as other Power 5 offers from Boston College, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
On the 247Sports Composite, Johnson is ranked as the No. 130 wide receiver. He calls himself New Jersey’s No. 1 receiver in his Twitter bio. His highlights can be viewed below.
Rutgers’ class now ranks No. 59 nationally and No. 13 in the Big Ten.
