Greg Schiano has received his latest commitment from a Tampa defensive end.

Rutgers received a verbal pledge from weak-side defensive end Henry Hughes on Friday, the team’s first commitment out of the Sunshine State during the 2021 recruiting cycle. The Tampa native became the 14th member of the Scarlet Knights’ class, making his announcement with a post on Twitter.

Hughes is a 6-foot-5, 228-pound defensive end who totaled 17 tackles and three sacks last season as a junior in high school (per 247Sports statistics). He’s a three-sport athlete, bringing good athleticism to Piscataway, as well as a solid frame.

Though Hughes is currently unranked by 247Sports, he has received plenty of interest from Power Five programs. In addition to Rutgers, he received offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Syrcause and Minnesota.

With Hughes’ pledge, Rutgers ranks 21st nationally in the 2021 recruiting rankings. They sit at No. 8 in the B1G currently.
