Rutgers picked up its fourth-consecutive win over a ranked opponent Wednesday night, taking down No. 12 Illinois 70-59 to improve to 16-9 and 10-5 in Big Ten play. The win came at a cost, though, as Ron Harper Jr. was injured.

On Thursday, Rutgers released a statement on Harper’s injury:

Senior forward Ron Harper Jr. suffered an injury to his non-shooting hand in Wednesday night’s win over No. 12 Illinois.

He will continue to be evaluated for his return to the court and his status is day-to-day.

Harper exited in the final minutes of the game after passing Jeff Greer for sole possession of 16th place all-time in points in program history. Harper was 1 of 4 Rutgers players in double figures, leading the way with 16 points over 36 minutes. He is the Scarlet Knight’s leading scorer in the 2021-22 season, averaging 15.7 points per game.

Rutgers plays at Purdue on Sunday afternoon. We’ll see if Harper is able to go for the Scarlet Knights.
