Rutgers is on the board with the first points of the 2024 Big Ten season, jumping over Howard Thursday evening with a defensive touchdown!

While the Scarlet Knight offense could not deliver a touchdown on its first offensive drive, the defense provided some points after forcing Howard into a 3rd-and-7. Eric Rogers was able to provide the spark and jumped on an errant pass from quarterback Ja’Shawn Scroggins.

The play design left Rogers with truly one man to beat, and he was able to side step and get past the intended receiver. After that, it was off to the races with a convoy of defenders turned into blockers down the sideline.

Check it out:

Rutgers is facing Howard in the first game of the B1G season Thursday night while Minnesota and Illinois will follow with nonconference games later Thursday evening. We’ll see how those games shape up, but Rutgers is off to a strong start in the season opener.
