Rutgers defensive lineman Matt Thomas opted out of the 2020 season back in October, and now has announced that with three years of eligibility remaining, he is entering the NCAA transfer portal.
Thomas, a redshirt-freshman, will leave the Scarlet Knights as head coach Greg Shiano is working to turn the Rutgers program around.
Rutgers finished Schiano’s return season with a record of 3-6 in its conference-only schedule, making a significant shift after Rutgers went 0-9 in conference games each of the previous two years.
Thomas announced his intentions over Twitter, and thanked the Scarlet Knights program, specifically calling out Shiano and the Rutgers coaches.
With 3 years of eligibility remaining my recruitment is now open. Thank you Rutgers nation! ❤️ pic.twitter.com/pz1fnvQo9r
