Rutgers’ wide receiver room is a bit thinner entering the 2021 season.

Monday, senior receiver Monterio Hunt announced in a post on Twitter that he has decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal. His decision comes less than two weeks before the Scarlet Knights open the year against Temple on Thursday, Sept. 2.

“These past 3 years at Rutgers University has been a great experience and walking away with a degree is one of the biggest blessings to ever ask for. During my time here I have met so many great and influential people. Thank you,” Hunt wrote on Twitter. “I would like to thank Coach Schiano, Coach Underwood & the rest of the staff for allowing me to compete at one of the highest levels of college football and for that I am forever grateful.

“With that being said, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal as a Grad Transfer with two years of eligibility left.”

Hunt started his college career at Marshall in 2017 and played in 12 games as a freshman, primarily on special teams. He then spent the 2018 campaign at Northwestern Mississippi Community College, where he was credited with 41 catches for 405 yards and a touchdown.

In 2019, Hunt transferred to Rutgers but did not see any game action. Last fall, he played in two games (Michigan and Purdue) but did not record any statistics.

Hunt will have two years of eligibility to use at his next school.
