With Rutgers enduring a COVID-19 pause that has delayed the start of spring practice, the school has set a new date for its spring game this year.

On Monday, head coach Greg Schiano told reporters that the new plan for the Scarlet Knights’ spring game is to play on Thursday, May 20. The previous plan was to play on Saturday, May 1, but the pause has delayed that date.

Rutgers is coming off a 3-6 campaign in Schiano’s return as leader of the program. The Scarlet Knights posted a season-opening victory over Michigan State and later defeated Purdue and Maryland to hit the three-win mark.

Even though the Scarlet Knights posted a losing record, the vast improvement from the Chris Ash era was noticeable. Now, Schiano is hoping his team can take it to the next level with a full spring and summer camp before the start of the 2021 season.

Last year, Rutgers had its spring season canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic and only had a few weeks of fall camp before playing the season. While some other programs endured a similar process, other schools were able to complete at least a few, if not more, spring practices before shutting down.
