Rutgers has seen the offensive side of the ball take strides under offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca. Now, Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights are reportedly locking up the OC with a significant extension and raise.

According to Brian Fonseca with NJ.com, Ciarrocca has received an extension that will keep him at Rutgers through the 2027 season. The OC was also set to make $1.4 million in 2025 but will now earn $1.9 million with a $500,000 raise.

Ciarrocca is already the highest-paid assistant in Scarlet Knight history, and bumping his salary up to $1.9 million will put the OC among the highest-paid assistants in the country. He will have a buyout of $1.5 million if Ciarrocca terminates the deal prior to the 2026 season.

Prior to Ciarrocca coming to Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights averaged just 17.4 points per game in the 2022 season, a mark that ranked toward the bottom nationally. That number improved by nearly a full touchdown in Ciarrocca’s first season with Rutgers averaging 23.2 points per game.

The Scarlet Knights pushed that number even higher, averaging 28.9 points per game in 2024 while scoring 30+ points 7 times. Unfortunately, the defense regressed this season and allowed 25.4 points per game. The Scarlet Knights lost 2 of their last 3 games, with the offense scoring a combined 72 points in the 2 losses.

We’ll see how Schiano gets the defense to adjust in 2025, but the offense is poised to keep humming right along under Ciarrocca.
