Rutgers took the lead over Miami with a blocked punt touchdown midway through the 3rd quarter on Thursday afternoon.

The Scarlet Knights had given up 17 unanswered points prior to making a huge play on special teams to re-claim the lead, 21-17. It was Trevor Yeboah-Kodie who blocked the punt and Timmy Ward who recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.

Here’s a replay of the score:

That play gives Rutgers 8 blocked punts since the start of 2020 when Greg Schiano began his second stint as the Scarlet Knights’ head coach.

Rutgers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in this game, but let Miami back into the contest with a couple of scoring drives late in the first half. The Hurricanes then took the lead for the first time with a touchdown to start the 3rd quarter.

Rutgers is looking to improve to 7-6 on the year. The Scarlet Knights have not won a bowl game since they defeated North Carolina in the Quick Lane Bowl at the end of the 2014 season.
