Rutgers to lose key defensive player to transfer portal
The transfer portal is flooded with talent right now. Another B1G player has entered his name into the portal. So much talent is either leaving the conference or moving teams within the conference.
Rutgers star LB/DE CJ Onyechi has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer. For the Scarlet Knights, Onyechi recorded 85 tackles, 42 of which are solo, 11.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and a fumble recovery in his time with the program.
After previously announcing his intentions, 2017 3-star LB/DE CJ Onyechi has entered the portal as a grad transfer after totaling 85 tackles, 11.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks during his Rutgers career @RivalsRichie @RutgersRivals @ryanwpatti https://t.co/sHmJIz78cO

Onyechi this season had 27 total tackles, 16 of which are solo, 2 tackles for loss, 1 fumble recovery and a half a sack.
Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano is building something again in his second stint in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights finished 1 game shy of a bowl appearance. They were 5-7 on the season and 2-7 in B1G play.
Rutgers bowl drought will extend for another season, reaching 7 straight seasons without a bowl appearance. Rutgers’ last bowl appearance was the 2014 Quick Lane Bowl, where they beat North Carolina 40-21. That was Rutgers’ inaugural season in the B1G.
Wherever Onyechi ends up, that program will be getting a great DE/LB to play one final season for them.
