Rutgers’ offense struggled to get going in the first half vs. Maryland, but a trick play has opened the flood gates.

Trailing 3-0 in the third quarter, the Scarlet Knights dialed up an end around for speedster Bo Melton.

It worked to perfection, with Melton taking it 44 yards to the house. Here’s the play:

That’s Melton’s seventh touchdown of the year, but his first on the ground.

That might be all the scoring Rutgers needs to win this game. Maryland is playing without starting quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. Lance Legendre started the game, but threw two interceptions in the first half.

Legendre and third stringer Eric Najarian have started this game a combined 11-of-23 for 112 yards and two picks.

It’s been a weird year overall for the Terps. After getting blown out by Northwestern in Week 1, Maryland picked up nice victories in the following two weeks. But since then, it has had several games derailed due to COVID-19 and haven’t been able to sustain its early-season momentum.

Rutgers is looking for its third win of the season. Greg Schiano’s squad has been competitive this year, losing close battles to Illinois and Michigan along the way.

Maryland has won two straight games in this series and holds the all-time series advantage at 9-6.
