Rutgers women’s soccer and UMass were involved in a wild and ugly on-field brawl Sunday evening that resulted in red cards being shown to 2 individuals.
The incident began when Gia Girman of the Scarlet Knights was whistled for a foul. The foul occurred when Girman executed a late slide tackle from behind a UMass player.
In the aftermath, Ashley Lamond from UMass came over and tried to push Girman off the ball but Girman did not back off. The two exchanged blows while standing before Girman grabbed and slung Lamond to the ground.
The two continued to brawl on the pitch before teammates from either team were able to separate them. Here is how it all went down:

Now, Girman and Lamond will have to wait to find out about a potential suspension after that kind of display on the pitch. UMass held on for a 1-0 victory in Sunday’s game.
