There’s another turn in the Rutgers Scarlet Knights’ coaching search.

After talks apparently initially broke down between Greg Schiano and the university, it now looks as if that door shouldn’t be closed just yet.

James Kratch of New Jersey Advance Media shared the latest on Twitter:

Currently out of coaching, Schiano previously served as Rutgers’ head coach from 2001-11. Taking the Scarlet Knights to six bowl games during his time at the helm, he last coached under Urban Meyer at Ohio State from 2016-18.

Serving as the university’s athletic director since 2015, Pat Hobbs is under increasing pressure from a disgruntled fan base to get the program back on track.

Perhaps a return to the past will do just that.

The 2019 Scarlet Knights, meanwhile, are just 2-9 headed into Saturday’s season finale against the No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions in State College.

Beginning the year with Chris Ash holding the reins, Nunzio Campanile has been serving as the interim head coach since Ash’s firing on September 29. Also ironically coming to Piscataway from Ohio State, Ash posted just an 8-32 (3-26 B1G) record during his four seasons in charge.

Saturday’s action from Beaver Stadium will kick at 3:30PM ET on BTN.
