Rutgers entered Saturday looking for a signature upset win over No. 13 Michigan State. It left no doubt after it took the floor at Jersey Mike’s Arena.
Six Scarlet Knights hit double figures in a 84-63 win over the Spartans on Saturday evening.
The game opened with a made dunk my Clifford Omoruyi, setting the tone for the entire contest. Rutgers opened up with a 5-0 lead and never looked back. Michigan State was able to tie the game 28-28, but that would be as close as Tom Izzo’s team would get.

Rutgers was led by Omoruyi and Ron Harper Jr., both scoring 17 points in the win. Paul Mulcahy added 15, Geo Baker scored 12 and Dean Reiber added 12 off the bench. Caleb McConnell scored 11.
Rutgers won the rebounding battle 31-20, hit 32 buckets on 22 assists and forced Michigan State to turn the ball over 15 times. It was a stellar performance on both ends of the floor from the Scarlet Knights.
With Saturday’s win, Rutgers now has signature victories over then No. 1 Purdue and No. 13 Michigan State, both at home. The Scarlet Knights improved to 7-5 in B1G play and 13-9 overall.
