Rutgers has had its share of issues against ranked opponents over the last three years. The Scarlet Knights haven’t been competitive in any of those matchups, and that extended to last Saturday’s game against No. 4 Ohio State.

It’s been so bad that Rutgers was a 35.5-point underdog and still failed to cover the spread against the Buckeyes, losing 52-3. Some thought five touchdowns was too much and that the Knights would finally be able to cover.

Scott Van Pelt was one of those people.

The ESPN host picked Rutgers in his weekly “Winners” but was disappointed by the 49-point victory Ohio State walked out of Columbus with on Saturday. It’s not the first time Van Pelt has been fooled by the Scarlet Knights, but it’s going to be the last.

He devoted his “1 Big Thing” segment to Rutgers and why he’s decided to never pick the school again. As Van Pelt explains, it’s been disastrous when he has.

In 2016, he picked Rutgers at +30 against Michigan. The Wolverines won 78-0. In the three games against ranked opponents in which Van Pelt has picked the Scarlet Knights, they’ve been outscored 170-10.

Below is the whole video from Van Pelt and why he’s chosen to never pick Rutgers again.
