BTN analysts debate which new coordinator will make improvements in 2018

It’s not always a smooth transition changing coaches, but these new coordinators will have a chance to thrive in 2018.
In a recent segment on the Big Ten Network, Howard Griffith, Gerry DiNardo, and Dave Revsine debated which new coordinators in the Big Ten will have an immediate impact in 2018. Though each situation is different, each of these coordinators will face unique challenges with a chance to do special things this season.
For Griffith, he believes Ricky Rahne will do a good job of replacing Joe Moorhead at OC:
“He’s going to have an opportunity to really start to balance out the offense at Penn State right now,” said Griffith.
He pointed out that the Nittany Lions understandably focused on dynamic RB Saquon Barkley last season. Without Barkley, Rahne will have to figure out the right balance to open up the game for QB Trace McSorley.
For DiNardo, he believes Rod Smith at Illinois could be a special hire as he brings in the spread attack, but Revsine highlighted Nebraska DC Erik Chinander as his pick. While Nebraska features a new staff under head coach Scott Frost, there’s no denying the defense needs to be much better in 2018.
