Michigan loses starting guard to transfer portal, per report

Michigan point guard Tre Donaldson is entering the transfer portal, according to a report.
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello was first to share that news on Tuesday afternoon. Donaldson started all 37 games Michigan this season and helped lead the Wolverines to the Sweet 16.

Donaldson’s decision to enter the portal comes after Michigan added former North Carolina guard Elliot Cadeau earlier this week. Cadeau, a former 5-star prospect, is one of the best floor generals in the country and likely would have taken over as Donaldson’s starting point guard role.
Donaldson averaged 11 points and 4 assists per game this season. Perhaps his best moment during his lone season with the Wolverines came in the Big Ten Tournament when he hit a game-winner to beat Maryland.
With Cadeau in and Donaldson out, Michigan is already re-shaping its roster for 2025-26 under Dusty May. The Wolverines had a successful Year 1 under May this season as they got all the way to the Sweet 16. However, Michigan will hope to accomplish even more next season.
Donaldson began his college career at Auburn, playing in 67 games for the Tigers before entering the portal last offseason. Now back in the portal, Donaldson will have 1 year of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
