Williams will share captaincy responsibilities with wide receiver DJ Moore, tight end Cole Kmet, tight end Marcedes Lewis, safety Kevin Byard, cornerback Jaylon Johnson, linebacker TJ Edwards and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.
Williams is stepping into a unique situation as a rookie quarterback. The Bears have a roster that appears to be ready to compete for a playoff spot from Day 1, so he will be facing some immediate high expectations.
Williams earning captain status is a nice way to finish off his first preseason in the NFL. Williams played sparingly in the preseason, but he showed off plenty of potential during his first exposure to the professional level.
Williams is by far the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors for the upcoming campaign. FanDuel has him listed at +120 to earn that honor. He’s also -135 to lead all rookies in passing yards during the 2024-25 campaign.
