John Robinson, former USC coach, dies at 89
John Robinson passed away at the age of 89 on Monday, USC has announced.
Robinson served as USC’s head coach from 1976-82 and then again from 1993-97. One of the winningest coaches in USC history, Robinson went 104-35-4 during his time with the Trojans. His tenure was highlighted by leading USC to the 1978 National Championship.
Per a statement from USC, Robinson died due to complications from pneumonia.

In addition to the national championship, Robinson’s accolades at USC include being the third-winningest coach in program history behind only John McKay and Howard Jones. He also led USC to 5 Pac-12 titles and went a perfect 4-0 in his Rose Bowl appearances.
In between his stints at USC, Robinson was also the head coach for the the Los Angeles Rams from 1983-91. Robinson won a franchise-record 75 games as head coach of the Rams and led the team to 6 postseason appearances.
Per USC’s release, a celebration of life for Robinson will be held after the conclusion of the college football season.
