JuJu Watkins captures USC's first Player of the Year honor since 1980s with Big Ten honor
JuJu Watkins turned in a dominant performance for USC basketball this season. Now, she’s starting to collect hardware for the 2024-25 season.
On Tuesday, Watkins was announced as a unanimous All-Big Ten selection during USC’s first season in the league. She also captured the league’s Player of the Year honor in the process. It is the first Player of the Year honor for USC women’s basketball since 1988.

Just a sophomore, Watkins is already an electric scorer with 20 career games of 30+ points, already closing in on the program record held by the legendary Cheryl Miller. Watkins led USC to the outright Big Ten title and finished the regular season No. 2 overall in the AP Poll.
This season, Watkins had 6 games of 30+ points, including 30 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds in a season-ending rivalry win over UCLA. She also dropped 40 points in a win over California Baptist, her 3rd career game with at least 40 points.
After becoming a first-team AP All-American last season, Watkins is on track for similar honors this season. She led the Big Ten and was 2nd nationally while averaging 24.4 points per game to go with 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.1 steals.
Watkins and the Trojans will now wait to face the winner of the Indiana vs. Oregon game in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Grabbing the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament is not out of the realm of possibility with a strong showing in Indianapolis.
