Lincoln Riley outlines USC's QB plans for 2025 season
Lincoln Riley met with reporters on Wednesday afternoon to discuss USC’s signing class and the future of the program following a 6-6 campaign in 2024.
USC’s future at quarterback was of some interest, particularly with Miller Moss set to enter the transfer portal this winter. That leaves Jayden Maiava and true freshman Husan Longstreet as USC’s top options in its QB room for 2025.
According to Riley, that’s exactly where the Trojans want to be going into next season. He told reporters USC may sign a quarterback for depth out of the portal before the spring, but insisted the Trojans are comfortable with Maiava and Longstreet moving forward into the future.
“I have a lot of confidence in Jayden,” Riley said. “He played well in those 2 big victories and really put us in a great position [against] statistically the No. 1 passing defense in the country the other day … I think he’s going to continue to progress and get better and better. We obviously have a ton of confidence in both he and Husan and what that room has a chance to become. We’re going to put a lot of emphasis, a lot of reps and a lot of time into those 2 guys.”
“We obviously have to get somebody else at some point in some role to fill out the room and make sure we’re doing right by the team. But if you told me next year that we’re going in with those 2 guys, like I feel like we will, I’m very, very excited about it.”
Maiava will likely enter the spring as the presumed starter after taking over for Moss down the stretch in November. He threw for 906 yards, 7 touchdowns and 3 interceptions this season while averaging 7 yards per attempt. He led USC to a pair of November victories over Nebraska and UCLA after taking over for Moss.
Longstreet is more of a wildcard option. He’s one of USC’s top-ranked signees in the class of 2025. Longstreet is a 5-star prospect who is regarded as the No. 5 quarterback in the country for the class of 2025, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
