USC landed a transfer pledge on Sunday from former Purdue offensive lineman DJ Wingfield, according to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos. The report stated that Wingfield had already signed with the program; USC had not announced that signing at the time of publication.

Wingfield fills a major need for the Trojans, who have lost multiple starters up front to the portal this offseason and will enter 2025 with at least 3 new starters along the offensive line.

A 6-foot-4, 316-pound senior, Wingfield began his career at El Camino Junior College during the 2020 season. He moved to New Mexico in 2022 and spent 2 seasons with the Lobos. He transferred to Purdue prior to the 2024 season and started all 12 games for the Boilermakers.

Wingfield played in 9 games for New Mexico in 2023 after returning from an injury. Every single snap he saw that season came as a right tackle.

For Purdue last fall, he played exclusively as a right guard. Per Pro Football Focus, Wingfield gave up 22 quarterback pressures in 375 snaps in pass protection. He finished the season with a 63.8 overall offensive grade, a 64.5 grade as a run-blocker, and a 61.5 grade as a pass-blocker.

He graded out much better as a tackle than he did a guard. For New Mexico in 2023, he was debited with 7 pressures allowed in 299 pass-pro snaps. He finished that year with a 78.0 grade as a pass-blocker and a 74.6 grade as a run-blocker.

Wingfield struggled against the bigger fronts he faced while at Purdue, though he certainly wasn’t alone in that regard. Purdue’s offense was often overwhelmed during the 2024 season.

At USC, he can fill a role at either guard or tackle. USC has to replace left guard Emmanuel Pregnon, center Jonah Monheim, and right tackle Mason Murphy.
