USC scored a huge victory for its 2025 recruiting class, getting a commitment from 5-star guard Alijah Arenas on Thursday night.

The 6-foot-6 shooting guard is the son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas. He chose USC over basketball blue bloods Arizona, Kentucky and Louisville.

Here’s video of his commitment:

Arenas is the top-ranked shooting guard in the 247Sports Composite rankings, he’s the 2nd-ranked player from the state of California, and he’s the 7th-ranked player overall in the Class of 2025.

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound phenom is from Chatsworth, Calif., but USC wasn’t a sure thing for Arenas just because he was a local kid. Prior to committing to the Trojans, Arenas visited USC and Arizona, where his father played his college ball, before deciding to stay local and attend USC.

“For me, (USC) felt like the best fit,” Arenas said on his father’s Gil’s Arena Podcast. “For everybody that supported me on this journey, just helped me see my path. Then going on campus and seeing how USC was, like, it made me special. I talked to the coach, and seeing what I could possibly be, it was amazing for me. I think I could really go and play for USC.”

Arenas is the third player to commit to USC during the 2025 recruiting cycle. He joins 4-star guards Jerry Easter and Elzie Harrington in a class that now ranks No. 7 overall, according to 247Sports’ industry-generated composite team rankings.
