USC defensive back DeCarlos Nicholson has entered the transfer portal, according to a report.

That’s per 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, who notes that Nicholson transferred to USC from Mississippi State ahead of the 2024 season. He registered 27 tackles and 5 pass deflections this season for the Trojans.

Nicholson was productive in his snaps for the Trojans, but he didn’t have a major role in 2024. According to Pro Football Focus, he played just 263 snaps this season for USC. That ranked 15th amongst all defensive players and 5th amongst cornerbacks.

He also received a coverage grade of just 59.5 per PFF. Nicholson allowed 23 catches for 261 yards this season.

Still, it’s another transfer portal loss for a USC team that’s hoping to take a big step forward in 2025. He’s the 22nd player to transfer away from USC so far this offseason. He joins other high-profile names such as Emmanuel Pregnon, Zachariah Branch, Bear Alexander and Duce Robinson, amongst others.

USC has also been aggressive in adding talent via the portal this offseason. The Trojans have 10 commitments so far with more potentially set to join the fold in the coming weeks. USC’s transfer class ranks 27th nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Nicholson is able to enter the transfer portal outside of a designated window because he is a graduate transfer. Because he began his career at a junior college, Nicholson has been granted a waiver for an additional year of eligibility.
