It’s an Orange Bowl rematch in New York City.

Wisconsin (7-5) will square off with Miami (7-5) in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 27. The two teams played in last year’s Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, a game the Badgers won 34-24.

Both teams endured some challenges this season and much more was expected from both programs. After last year’s success, Wisconsin were both expected to challenge for a spot in the College Football Playoff. But the two will compete in New York City with an eight-win season hanging in the balance.

Here are five things to know about Miami headed into the Pinstripe Bowl:

Strong defensive line

Really, it’s the entire defense that deserves credit, but the front line is where Miami is just better than everyone else. The Hurricanes recorded 126 tackles for loss this season, leading the country in the category. The top three TFL getters were all defensive linemen, as Gerald Willis III, Jonathan Garvin and Joe Jackson combined for 48.5 of that total. This is a unit capable of making life miserable just about any offense in college football.

QB consistency has been an issue

The play from the quarterback position was really something Mark Richt and Co. were hoping to address this season. Instead, Miami continued to struggled under center. Both N’Kosi Perry and Malik Rosier saw snaps for the Canes in 2018, but neither ever really got into a rhythm. The result was the ACC’s 12th-ranked passing offense and a lack of consistency from week to week. For a second straight year, Miami’s quarterback play was an Achilles heel.

There’s no place like home

Miami was 5-1 in games at Hard Rock Stadium this season, with the lone loss coming to Duke. Unfortunately, that means Richt’s bunch wasn’t exactly too good outside the city limits. The Hurricanes posted just a 2-4 record on the road, with one of those wins coming against Toledo. The only major road test they passed was a win over an average Virginia Tech team at Lane Stadium.

Watch out for the running back

Travis Homer may not be a household name, but he’s a player capable of shredding a defense on any given day. He rushed for 969 yards and four touchdowns on the season and exceeded the 100-yard mark three times for the year. But he’s got a sneaky explosiveness and has the ability to rip off big plays anytime he touches the ball. He had nine carries that resulted in 20-plus yards this season, second in the ACC behind only Clemson’s Travis Etienne.

The Big Apple is a big disappointment

Aspirations were high entering the season. After last year’s improbable run, everyone expected Miami to be a player in the ACC and perhaps challenge Clemson for a spot in the College Football Playoff. As the season progressed, it became clearer that the Canes still haven’t quite returned to the glory days. While reaching another bowl game is nice, nobody predicted the Hurricanes would be packing their winter coats for a trip to New York City this December.
