Braelon Allen provided a sense of relief to Wisconsin fans everywhere when he reaffirmed his plans to stay with the Badgers under new head coach Luke Fickell.
Allen had previously addressed rumors linking his name to the transfer portal but those rumors reignited when Jim Leonhard was not awarded the permanent head coaching gig. Now, the star running back for the Badgers is adjusting to a new regime and head coach under Fickell.
Thursday morning, Allen met with the media and discussed the transfer drama and the start to Fickell’s tenure in Madison. Ultimately, Allen is glad to have the transfer chatter put to bed as the team prepares for a bowl game.
“Yeah, a little bit,” said Allen on a sense of relief from the situation ending. “I wouldn’t say they affected me too much, but just having it out of the way is definitely nice. I feel like some weight is lifted off my shoulders, especially within the locker room.”
As for his first impressions of Fickell, Allen said the head coach has preached a need for “blind faith” as the players adjust to a new coaching staff. However, Allen went on to say he has been excited with what the new coach of the Badgers has to say.
“He talked about having a little bit of blind faith,” Allen said of Fickell. “Everyone has to buy into that with a new staff and situation. A lot of it has to do with trust and knowing what he has done with past teams. I was excited about everything he told me. He has made sure I can trust him, trust the vision he has for this team and the vision he has for me. That wasn’t too hard.”
With nearly 2,400 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns in his first two seasons, Fickell and the Badgers are undoubtedly thankful to have Allen in the fold for 2023. We’ll see how that season works out for Wisconsin down the road.
