BTN analyst Joshua Perry provides key takeaways from bus stop at Wisconsin
The Big Ten Network crew recently stopped in Madison to check out Wisconsin’s fall camp. BTN analyst Joshua Perry shared some of his top takeaways from what he saw at Badgers practice this past weekend.
In 2021, Wisconsin went 9-4, winning the Las Vegas Bowl. Perry said he has a lot of confidence in Paul Chryst’s 2022 squad, noting one question mark that will ultimately determine the Badgers’ success this fall.
As far as the defense, Perry was impressed by Jim Leonhard’s unit.
“I know people had some questions about guys not returning, what’s this defense going to look like? It’s going to be really good,” Perry said. “Secondary – very athletic. Up front – very physical. The linebackers are a commanding, communicating group. I like what’s going on here.”
Perry also had high praise for Wisconsin’s ground attack.
“The run game is going to be phenomenal,” Perry said. “Braelon Allen I think is the best running back in the Big Ten at this very moment. You’ve got Chez Mellusi, he’s looking very good out there, so they’ll be able to run the ball.”
Perry pointed to the passing game as the biggest question surrounding the team.
“It’s going to come down to the quarterback position and the wide receivers,” Perry said. “Are they going to be able to throw and catch the football? Can those get open down field? Can Graham Mertz make the right decisions. The jury is going to be out on that one, we’ll see once the season starts. But the rest of this team, I have a lot of confidence in.”
