ESPN analyst says Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor is 'dwarfing' Herschel Walker
Jonathan Taylor is on his way to being remembered as one of the best college running backs of all time. He was in that conversation before the 2019 season began, rushing for over 4,000 yards in his first two seasons in Madison.
He’s taken it to an entirely new level following Wisconsin’s opening game against USF.
Taylor scored four total touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving) and rushed for 135 yards in Wisconsin’s 49-0 victory over USF in Tampa. His one perceived weakness — catching passes out of the backfield — was suddenly a strength.
Now, he’s catapulted into the conversation as a potential Heisman Trophy winner and is climbing up the leaderboard among some of those perceived to be the best backs in the history of college football, including the great Herschel Walker.
ESPN football analyst Louis Riddick recently had praised Taylor for his accomplishments on the field through two seasons and a game. He says that the Badger back is “dwarfing” what Walker did during his time at Georgia.
He’s rewriting history. It’s an incredible statement, but it’s supported by facts. I grew up watching Herschel Walker…he was the standard. He’s been the standard for a long time. Jonathan Taylor’s production is dwarfing Herschel Walker’s in his first two years of college football. That is rewriting history.

In three seasons at Georgia, Walker totaled 5,259 yards and 49 touchdowns, and also totaled 243 receiving yards and three touchdown catches. He was known for his combination of speed, power and vision, and is still considered the best SEC running back of all time.

Wisconsin has pretty high standards at the running back position. Names like Ron Dayne, Montee Ball, Melvin Gordon, James White and John Clay have set an incredible standard in Madison.
Taylor is on his way to surpassing them all, though. Even the great Herschel Walker.
