ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) is predicting a narrow win for Wisconsin in its marquee matchup vs. Penn State in Week 1.

FPI gives the Badgers a 57.3 percent chance to defeat Penn State. It would be their first win over the Nittany Lions since 2011 when Bret Bielema defeated Joe Paterno 45-7 in Madison.

Penn State has won 4 straight matchups in this series, and has 10-9 advantage all-time vs. the Badgers. Penn State has also won 7 of the last 9 matchups between these programs.

Both programs are looking to rebound from tough seasons in 2020.

Wisconsin’s offense struggled mightily last season as it battled injuries and COVID-19 issues. Penn State’s attack has a new look this year under 1st-year offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.

Defensively, the Badgers are expected to be one of the top teams in the country.

Kickoff is at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
