Former Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez shares how Notre Dame series came together
The Shamrock Series will be renewed this Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL.
No. 12 Notre Dame will face No. 18 Wisconsin at noon ET, Saturday.
The game is so big that both pregame shows Big Noon Kickoff and ESPN’s College GameDay will be there for the game.
Former Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez on Thursday talked about how the meeting between two historic programs came together.
“It’s been quite a while, [Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick] and I talked about this way back when I was coaching,” Alvarez said. “We tried to put it together, and you know how it is, with open dates for both of us, to fit them in and make it work is very difficult.
“Jack was great to work with and with their Shamrock series. It worked out for Lambeau and Soldier Field this year and last year. And we’re going to play that game up in Lambeau. But it just took a long time and I’m glad it’s here and I’m glad we’re going to have a chance to play.”
Wisconsin and Notre Dame were supposed to play at Lambeau Field last season, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19.
