Four years after wrapping up a successful career at Wisconsin, Nigel Hayes has moved on to have a successful professional career.

Though some might assume that means the NBA, that’s not the case. Hayes has spent limited time playing in the top pro league in the U.S.

However, he’s made a name for himself in the Euroleague. It was announced Sunday that Hayes would be joining forces with one of the top powers in the Europe, FC Barcelona.

He played the last two seasons for Zalgiris Kaunas. His first professional experience overseas came in the Turkish League with Galatasaray. Now, he’ll play in Spain’s top league, which is arguably the second best league in the world behind the NBA.

In his two-plus seasons of Euroleague ball, Hayes has found success doing what he did in Madison. He’s known for his versatile play on both ends of the court while also filling the roles of power and small forward. He has shot 44 percent from the three-point line over the past two seasons.

As a high-end European player, the now-marriage of Hayes and FC Barcelona makes sense. This is especially true with the club’s coach, Sarunas Jasikevicius, previously coaching Hayes at Zalgiris Kaunas.

Hayes, an Ohio native, was a part of a legendary era for the Badgers. That included the 2014-15 season when Wisconsin made it to the Final Four, upset a Kentucky squad loaded with NBA talent and nearly topped Duke for the program’s first national title.

Hayes played alongside future NBA talent that included Sam Dekker, who recently signed with the Toronto Raptors. Dekker congratulated Hayes on his move on Sunday:
