The Garding Against Cancer Foundation, started by Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard, has eclipsed a big milestone.

According to WMTV 15, Wisconsin hosted a Garding Against Cancer event on Saturday night at the Kohl Center, and raised $800,000. With those donations, the foundation has raised approximately $4.2 million in the last 29 months.

“Obviously we started this a few years ago with a lot of anger, bitterness and hatred for a disease that took my dad,” Gard said.  “It’s really grown into an appreciation and a depth of gratitude for all of the people that have come to the forefront to help. I think we’ve been able to do a lot of good things for research and a lot of good things from a patient care standpoint from across the state but also the people that we’ve been able to touch and the connections and networking and the relationships that have grown from it.”

According to the Garding Against Cancer website, the foundation raised over $3 million through the first 24 months.

Gard started the foundation over two years ago to honor his father, who passed away in 2015 after a six-month battle with brain cancer.
