Graham Mertz announced that he is going to be entering the transfer portal on Sunday. Mertz was Wisconsin’s starting QB this season.

Mertz played in all 12 games for the Badgers this season with 2,136 yards passing and 19 touchdowns through the air. Mertz announced the decision to transfer from his Twitter account.

Mertz is entering the portal with two years of eligibility left.

Here’s the message Mertz left for Badgers fans:

“I am grateful for my time as a Badger, my time in Madison has taught me lessons that go far beyond the football field. I have decided that I will be entering the transfer portal in pursuit of my next opportunity. I will be entering with 2 years of eligibility.”

This move comes after the hiring of Luke Fickell in Madison. Before Fickell was announced, Jim Leonhard led Wisconsin to a 6-6 record and a bowl berth as interim HC this season. Leonhard will be reportedly returning to Wisconsin as the team’s DC in 2023.
