Hunter Wohler has some strong thoughts on his interim coach.

Jim Leonhard has taken the responsibilities as interim head coach of Wisconsin. Wohler — a second-year safety — weighed in on Leonhard’s work and believes he is next to lead the Badgers.

Wohler opened up on Leonhard taking over as head coach following the win over Maryland:

“I think he’s definitely ready. You can see it,” Wohler explained. “He has a different presence to him than not many people have. No one respects him more than this team. He has more respect than anyone else in this building. When he talks everyone listens and they listen close.

“He’s more than ready. He’s one of the smartest, if not, the smartest coaches I’ve ever been around. He deserves the job and I hope he gets it. It’d be amazing if he did.”

Leonhard took over as interim head coach after eight-year head coach Paul Chryst was fired when Wisconsin started the season with a 2-3 record. Leonhard is 3-1 as the interim head coach following a 23-10 home win over Maryland in Week 10.

We’ll see if Leonhard gets the nod, but Wisconsin has not made anything official yet.
