Former Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan is making his first start with Notre Dame Sunday night, and he looked right at home on the opening drive.

Taking on Florida State in Tallahassee, Coan and the Irish did not need long to find the end zone. The Seminoles did force a 4th-down play, but Notre Dame lined up and went for it.

Coan found tight end, Michael Mayer, over the middle with a throw that would go for 41 yards and a touchdown. Check it out:

On that opening drive, Coan went 4-for-4 for 82 yards and a touchdown. Florida State’s defense has settled in a bit since that first drive, but Coan has looked sharp on most of his dropbacks.

For what it’s worth, Florida State is likely not on par with Penn State’s talent on the defensive side of the ball. But after Graham Mertz struggled at home in Week 1, it will be interesting to see how Coan looks throughout the early parts of 2021.
