Jim Leonhard is working to get his defense back up to speed for 2022. After losing a number of pieces to the NFL, Leonhard definitely has his hands full this season.
In the secondary, Leonhard is still without one veteran piece in fall camp. That player is Alexander Smith, a cornerback who Leonhard says is still sidelined with a leg injury.
According to Jeff Potrykus with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Leonhard said Smith is still battling a hamstring injury. At this point, Leonhard is focused on the recovery process and taking his time with Smith to avoid any setbacks once Smith returns.
#Badgers CB Alexander Smith (hamstring) remains out. DC Jim Leonhard: “We’re not trying to rush him. We know what he’s done. He’s played a lot of ball for us. He had a tremendous spring and summer and the biggest thing is when he comes back no setbacks.”

Smith is a veteran player that has appeared in 36 career games with 2 starts from the 2021 season. He made 11 tackles and an interception last season and will hope to post a solid year once he gets back on the field.
