Jim Leonhard has made it official. The longtime defensive coordinator for the Wisconsin Badgers will not be returning to Madison as a piece of Luke Fickell’s coaching staff.

Leonhard made the move official Tuesday evening on social media:

“It has meant the world to me to be able to pour my heart and soul into the UW Football program over the last 7 years,” Leonhard wrote. “After discussions with my family and Coach Fickell, I will remain the DC through the bowl game but no longer be a part of the staff after the conclusion of the 2022 season. It has been an honor to coach these young men and thank you to all the fans who supported us along the way. On Wisconsin!”

It had previously been reported that Leonhard was deciding to stick around but Fickell eventually revealed the door was open but undecided. Now, fans have their official answer.

Leonhard has been a part of the Wisconsin program since 2016 and was the DC from 2017 until serving as the interim coach in the middle of the 2022 season.

Now, it will be interesting to see where Leonhard winds up moving forward. He is likely to have multiple suitors at the college level and potentially others in the NFL moving forward.
