Jim Leonhard’s name is trending on social media, largely related to a key coaching coach in the NFL.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers are reportedly make a change with defensive coordinator Joe Barry not returning. Barry has been the DC in Green Bay since 2021 with a number of other NFL stints preceding that time with the Packers.

With the DC job in Green Bay opening up, many fans and media were quick to link Leonhard’s name as a potential candidate for the post. ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky was among those to put the ex-Wisconsin assistant and interim head coach on his list of candidates.

Here’s a glimpse at how fans and media alike responded to Wednesday’s report:

From 2017-22, Leonhard served as the Badgers DC and defensive backs coach as one of the most well-regarded assistants in the country. He was reportedly in the mix for various NFL jobs during his tenure but opted to remain in Madison along the way.

During the 2022 season, Leonhard assumed the interim role after Paul Chryst’s firing and led the team to a 4-3 record but was not retained when Luke Fickell landed the permanent job. He spent the 2023 season in an analyst role for Bret Bielema at Illinois.
