Jim Leonhard, Wisconsin’s interim head coach, is pushing back on a targeting call on Nick Herbig who arguably is the best defensive player for the Badgers. Herbig was ejected from Saturday’s game during the 2nd half in their defensive battle with Nebraska.

Leonhard announced on Monday Wisconsin is appealing the ruling this week before the upcoming Minnesota game.

Herbig currently leads the conference with 11 sacks and 15.5 TFLs and would be a major loss for Wisconsin who still has a chance to win the B1G West. The 2nd Nebraska touchdown came in the 2nd half after Herbig’s ejection. As things currently stand, Herbig will be suspended for the first half against Minnesota.

The 15-14 win was a tough hard fought battle between the Husker’s and Badger’s defenses. Wisconsin was able to hold the Huskers to just 65 yards on the ground but it was obvious that without Herbig the defense is not the same.

Late into the 3rd quarter, Casey Thompson tried to run it after reading through his progressions. During the slide, Herbig appeared to pull up after preparing to stop Thompson who had not yet fallen but made contact with the QBs head.

The Badgers need to find a way to get Herbig back from the questionable call for the rivalry game against Minnesota.
