As the college football season turns to the second half of the season, a number of analysts are handing out midseason awards across the country.

During a Friday segment for FOX College Football, Joel Klatt gave his picks for midseason Heisman, Coach of the Year, Best Skill Position Player, and Defensive Player of the Year. He gave some love to superstar running back Jonathan Taylor as second on his midseason Heisman list, but he saved his best comments for Wisconsin’s head coach.

He left little doubt as to who he thinks is currently the best coach in the country:

“My coach of the year at the midseason point is taking a team that I did not have ranked in the preseason and has put them into the top 10,” said Klatt. “Not only that, but it’s also playing some of the best defense that we’ve ever seen: Paul Chryst with an assist from DC Jim Leonhard.”

Klatt made sure to go over some of the hurdles Wisconsin has cleared in 2019, just in case you do not agree with his choice:

“They lost their QB, they lost four OL, they lost several faces on their defense, and what did Wisconsin do? They rolled out here undefeated and they have four – count them, four – shutouts,” explained Klatt.

Klatt did find a way to give Taylor a little bit of recognition as well, handing him the award for Best Skill Position Player at the mid-way point.
