There are a number of storylines entering Saturday’s Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin showdown. And while one of those is the quarterback battle, FOX analyst Jenny Taft pointed to another position group as being key in the game.

Saturday morning, Taft started out discussing the respect shared between Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz and ex-Badger QB Jack Coan:

“There is so much respect between these 2, they even exchanged text messages earlier this week and that’s saying something,” explained Taft. “I want to start with what Wisconsin’s Graham Mertz had to say about Jack Coan. He said ‘Coan is great, but this isn’t the Graham against Jack game. This isn’t 1-on-1 basketball.'”

The key for both QBs playing well, according to Taft, is the work of Irish TE Michael Mayer and Badgers TE Jake Ferguson:

“For either of these QBs to have success today, they’re going to need some help, and that’s where their tight ends come into the mix,” explained Taft.
