Wisconsin’s season opener will be at least a few minutes behind schedule.

With dangerous weather in the area, the Wisconsin-USF matchup scheduled for 7 p.m. ET was initially delayed by 15 minutes until 7:15 due to lightning. Since, then, the kickoff has been pushed back until at least 7:55

Rules require teams to wait 25 minutes after seeing a lightning bolt near the area before teams can take the field.

As there are predicted to be several thunderstorms in the Tampa area on Friday night, there could be longer or more frequent delays throughout the evening. Brett McMurphy of Stadium tweeted out the delay.

We will continue to stay updated on the status of the Week 1 matchup between the Badgers and Bulls. Wisconsin is coming off an 8-5 season in 2018.
