Michigan State head coach and Wisconsin alum Mel Tucker commented on the firing of Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst Monday afternoon and made his thoughts clear. While the news on Chryst came out of nowhere Sunday evening, Tucker admitted “nothing shocks or surprises me” in the business of college football.

At the end of the day, Tucker is well-aware that college football is “a production business” and noted it’s something coaches sign up for.

Many people disagree with the firing of Chryst, who has led Wisconsin to an admirable 67-26 record in his time with the Badgers. However, Tucker recognizes that nobody is safe in college football and that a sudden firing is something coaches should be ready for.

The firing came after Wisconsin’s 2-3 start and a loss last week to Illinois. The Badgers now have to prepare to manage the rest of the season without Chryst and start the new page on Saturday against Northwestern.

Tucker played at Wisconsin in the early 90s before starting his coaching career in 1997. His Spartans are also off to a shaky 2-3 start this season with Ohio State on the horizon.
