Melvin Gordon really loves his home state.

At the end of the 2016 season, the former Badger and current Chargers running back sat down with NFL.com’s Andie Hagemann for a one-on-one interview. Most of the topics discussed were pretty standard, as Gordon reflected on his 2016 season, the team’s move to Los Angeles and Anthony Lynn being named the organization’s new head coach.

But there was one question that Wisconsin fans and natives might find particularly interesting.

Gordon was asked if he was pulling for anyone in particular during the NFL Playoffs since the Chargers didn’t reach the postseason this year. And in true Wisconsin fashion, Gordon responded that he’s hoping his home state is represented well:

I’m from Wisconsin, so I’d like if Green Bay would win it all. Just so I can have bragging rights for my state, because everyone acts like they don’t know where Wisconsin is when I tell them. I want Green Bay to win.

If Wisconsin and Green Bay fans didn’t think highly of Gordon’s efforts while wearing a Badgers uniform he probably swayed them with that comment.

The Packers beat Dallas 34-31 last Sunday in the NFC Divisional round to advance to the NFC Championship on Sunday. Green Bay will play Atlanta with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

Gordon finished his second year in the NFL just three yards shy of the 1,000-yard mark, rushing for 997 yards and 10 TDs for the season. He also caught 41 passes for 419 yards and a pair of scores.

Even though Gordon doesn’t have that Green Bay “G” on his helmet, he’s still got a soft spot for his hometown team when he’s not in uniform.

Once a Cheesehead, always a Cheesehead, I guess.
