Wisconsin product T.J. Watt is now the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL after signing a four-year extension of over $112 million with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

NFL insider Adam Schefter shared a hilarious story of how Watt accepted his new contract:

“His agents told T.J. ‘Look, we can get you more money.’ He said ‘No, I’m going up to Mr. (Art) Rooney right now to accept the deal,” Schefter explained during Thursday evening’s SportsCenter on ESPN. “He walked into Mr. Rooney’s office and announced ‘Mr. Rooney, I think we have a deal. If you’ll excuse me now, I’m going to head out to the weight room, I’ve gotta work out to go get in.'”

Watt’s mega-deal has $80 million guaranteed at the onset.

Watt led the NFL in sacks last season (15) and has amassed 49.5 sacks during his four seasons in the league. Watt has been the runner-up for NFL Defensive Player of the Year each of the last two seasons.

Watt is the brother of Arizona Cardinals defensive end and fellow Wisconsin product J.J. Watt.

The younger Watt spent two seasons at Wisconsin, totaling 11.5 sacks, an interception, touchdown, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. In 2016, Watt earned Second-team All American and First-team All-B1G honors.
