Wisconsin received a big-time commitment on Monday, as three-star defensive end Darryl Peterson gave his verbal pledge to the program.

Peterson, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound defensive lineman from Akron, Ohio, announced his decision on Monday. He picked Wisconsin over other major offers from programs like Alabama, Penn State and Michigan. Peterson made his announcement with a post on social media.

Wisconsin is now up to 12 commitments in the 2021 recruiting class. The Badgers rank 21st nationally and eighth in the B1G.

According to his 247Sports evaluation, Peterson could play along the defensive line or the linebacker position at a linebacker. Currently, his frame is best suited to play the linebacker spot but he could move around on the field in Madison. He also brings quick hands and a high motor to the program.

During his junior season at Archbishop Hoban High School, Peterson was constantly in the backfield. He piled up 24 tackles for loss and 21 sacks while recording 45 total stops on the year.

Other programs that showed interest in Peterson included Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Pitt, Iowa State, Akron and West Virginia.

Peterson is ranked as the No. 31 strong-side defensive end in the 2021 class. He the No. 17 player from Ohio and is No. 503 overall.
