The rumor that Wisconsin sophomore QB Jack Coan would get the start over QB Alex Hornibrook in the New Era Pin Stripe Bowl surfaced late Wednesday night when Coan’s father put up this tweet:

Mike Coan, Jack’s father, let the news out and on Thursday, Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst confirmed it:

“Alex [Hornibrook] really did participate in a couple weeks of bowl practices, and then kind of had some reoccurring occurrences, and we’re going with Jack,” Chryst said.

The issues for Hornibrook all season have come from injuries to the head. This appears to be no different. With Jack Coan playing, the sophomore will lose his ability to use this season as a redshirt.

He will be a junior next season, while Hornibrook will be a senior.

The Badgers also signed the No. 4 pro-style QB, a 4-star recruit from Kansas in Graham Mertz on Wednesday during the Early Signing Period for 2019.
