Wisconsin made one of the biggest splashes in the offseason in terms of transfer portal additions. Really, it was like a cannonball for Paul Chryst.

Former Clemson running back Chez Mellusi decided to continue his college career with the Badgers. He brings experience, depth and explosiveness to what had been an uncertain running back room in Madison.

Yes, Wisconsin was returning Jalen Berger, but there were some serious questions about the depth behind the starting running back. But with the addition of Mellusi, the Badgers feel much better about their situation.

“We’re excited about Chez joining us. We felt if it was the right person, we thought we could benefit from adding a guy if he had some experience,” Chryst said, per Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “We think we’ve found that with Chez.”

Chryst said that he and his staff had conversations with people at Clemson regarding Mellusi and liked what they heard. However, there was no rush to get the running back to commit.

In two seasons at Clemson, Mellusi played in 20 games and rushed for 427 yards and 6 touchdowns on 71 carries. He also added 38 receiving yards and another touchdown to his total for the Tigers.

Where exactly Mellusi fits into Wisconsin’s offense is unknown, but he certainly adds some experience and explosiveness to the room. That’s exactly what the Badgers were looking for.
